The library at Newnham is a beautiful place to study and is where you can go to get all of the resources you might need for your studies. To access the library you will need to be inducted (information about this will be sent out during Welcome Week, or email the library staff . Your university card will then give you access to the library and allow you to check books out. The library opening hours are: Full term and Easter vacation 06.30am-01.45am (including weekends) Christmas and long vacations 06.30am-23.45pm The library is open 7 days except over Christmas where it is fully closed (you will be emailed details about this in Michaelmas term). The library staff are there 9am-1pm and 2pm-5pm Monday to Friday. If you would like to bring guests into the library you must talk to the library staff about this.
The library is equipped with desks to study, an IT suite, a group study room and printing, scanning and binding facilities. As well as academic books there are many fiction books to borrow, and DVDs. You are welcome to bring water into the library as long as it is in a closed bottle, and you can bring hot drinks as long as they are in a closed container (travel mugs will be available to purchase from the café and the MCR committee).
iDiscover is an online search tool where you can search for books, journals etc. and see where in the university they are, whether they are available, as well as requesting titles. During your library induction you will be shown how to check out books and all the relevant information about finding the resources you need and facilities the library has. Additionally, you can download the Newnham library guide here which has detailed information about every aspect of the library. You can always go and chat to the lovely library staff and they will answer any questions you have and help you in any way they can! The library staff are always looking for recommendations and requests for new books to purchase. There are slips you can complete in the library or you can do this online here .

There are many many libraries which are part of Cambridge University – you are welcome to use the main University library, as well as your Faculty library and relevant departmental libraries. For information on all the University libraries please see this website . Cambridge Central Library is the council-run library, located in the Grand Arcade (accessible via the escalators by Top Shop). Anyone can access the library, which as desks, computers and a café and it is free to get a library card and check books out.
